Volunteers needed to help maintain 80 young Coast Live Oak trees along the Veterans Walkway at Elings Park. All tools and supplies provided. No experience necessary. Please wear clothes you wouldn’t mind getting dirty, wear closed toe shoes (no sandals or flips please), bring sunscreen and water. Families with supervised children welcome.
These trees are memorials to Santa Barbara County Veterans. The walkway was updated in the 1990’s and replanted with a grant from the Arbor Day Association and the Target Company in 2019. We’ll be providing much needed tree care for the trees including weeding, mulching, stake removal/repositioning and some light pruning from the ground. A celebration of all veterans will take place at noon.
We also have volunteer opportunities at the Elings Growing Grounds and welcome volunteers to plant trees along the Santa Barbara Foundation Trail in Elings on Saturday mornings from 9 am to noon in October and November. Please call 805-252-1952 for more information on becoming a volunteer!
